Statue of Ishida Mitsunari

A portrait of Ishida Mitsunari, a sengoku commander who supported Hideyoshi’s government. Mitsunari was born in Ishida Village, Sakata District (in Ishidacho, Nagahama City) and served Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi) when Hideyoshi was lord of Nagahama Castle. After Hideyoshi’s death and his defeat at the Battle of Sekigahara fighting Tokugawa Ieyasu, he hid in Furuhashi, Ika District (in Kinomotocho, Nagahama City) but was captured and executed at Rokujogawara in Kyoto. The portrait is a recreation of Ishida Mitsunari’s face created by Mikio Maeda based on phots and data of Ishida Mitsunari’s skull.
