Letter with a vermilion stamp from Hashiba Hideyoshi to the people of Nagahama
A letter addressed to important local businessmen in Nagahama from Hashiba Hideyoshi (later Toyotomi Hideyoshi). The letter thanks the businessmen for the funazushi (fermented carp sushi), a local Omi specialty, they sent to Hideyoshi. At this time, Hideyoshi was in the middle of Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, fighting with Tokugawa Ieyasu for control of Japan, and the funazushi had been a comfort in the midst of battle. The document reveals the close relationship between Hideyoshi, who created Nagahama, and its influential businessmen.
