Drawing of Odani Castle

A drawing of Odani Castle, which was the seat of power for the Azai clan for three generations. Odani Castle was built by Azai Sukemasa, the clan’s founder, in 1525. In 1525, Azai Sukemasa, the clan’s founder, first built an encircling wall of earth and stones around two mountains and Shimizu Valley sandwiched in between them around 1525. Temples and residences for retainers were placed in Shimizu Valley, and, in the valley’s back, the mansion where the Azai clan lived.
